This project is part of the 2021 collaboration project between Pratt Institute and Design School Kolding (DSKD) in Denmark, where participants worked in small mixed teams that paired students from both schools.
This year’s theme “Together and …” invited students to explore the theme of togetherness through design during the transitional pandemic time, looking at the virtual and physical as we ultimately move toward being together in person again. An additional optional prompt was to explore how the idea of a magazine might be reimagined in the context of the togetherness theme.
“Together and (Enemies to Lovers)” imagines the idea of magazine as a safehouse, suspending the doubt and alert from the hostile external world, develop heart-touching conversations, and obtain understanding and support that have potential impact even outside this space.
The final outcome is an anonymous auto-pairing communication platform based on mobile app, specifically used for instant idea exchanges on a range of questions on life, death, interpersonal relationships, etc. A website is used for answer archive (with user consent) and the introduction to the project.

On the left of the user flow shows the anonymous instant answer exchange process, which is the core of the project. Without signing up, users can develop unlimited Q & A sessions and enjoy exchange ideas with random strangers paired by choosing the same question.
For signed-up users, all history pairs are archived after Q & A sessions. After completing a certain number of Q&A sessions, there will be a chance to exchange further contact information, so as to make friends outside the “safe house”.
